PEW WINNERS 2013?

It is always disappointing to see Philadelphia prove me wrong. Just when I think the city will recover from the most hide-bound, stodgy arts environment, they return to form. The PEW grant visual arts winner this year is Paul Swenbeck. Yes, he has been around the block and has paid his dues. But is he the best we have? Already a home-town staple; does he need 60 grand? Does he have a daughter to put through an Ivy League school? Is he completely representative of an average hip sort of millennial artist dabbling in every media at once. Yup. He is also represented by a gallery, Fleisher-Ollman, our highest flyer. Can't Swenbeck simply sell his faux-outsider blobs to a collector through his gallery?
