Digital Olympics?

I watched intrigued the opening of the 2012 Summer Games in London Town. The spectacle was literally LED lights, projections and rising smokestacks, the story of England and its cultural heritage via director, Danny Boyle. I lost the thread at the Twenty First Century; a cell phone isn't iconic enough. The funniest bit of course was Mr. Bean who has absolutely nothing to do with sport. References rang fast, Chariots of Fire etc... and James Bond parachuting in with the Queen. Plenty of classic British music of the sixties and seventies to tap for nostalgia's sake. Only figures missing were maybe Jack the Ripper, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Who. I was expecting the Tardis to land midfield with it familiar grinding noise! Where would the world be without the British Empire?
