FALSE IMPRESSIONS

Teaching Visual Culture at Moore this Summer is a blast. We have been looking at a new book, 7 days in the Art World, which is a timely expose about the global boom days. Today we discussed the classic issue, High vs. Low or more specifically, Elite vs. Egalitarian. You cannot avoid this especially in Philadelphia where you are forced to make false choices. Either you try for acceptance via a social network where intellectual competence is not a requirement (you are also labeled a snob) or you shoot higher and start a collection of theoretical writings. I never thought these two camps were mutually exclusive but you really can't have a foot in both at the same time. Well, I can but I'm not normal.
